NAPIER HARBOUR. (.Far Press Association.) Napier, march 20. The Harbour Board lias instructed Messrs. B. A. Cullen and T. W. Keelo, two Australian engineers engaged to report on the dredging question, to furnish a comprehcns.ve report on the whole harbour problem, covering both the breakwater and the inner harbour schemes.

HASTINGS ELECTRIC WORKS. Hastings, March 20. Mr. H. J. Mi Rogers, of the Auckland Tramway Company, has been appointed engineer to the Hastings Municipal Electric Power and Lighting Department. There were sixty applicants. A HAPPY ENDING. Christchurch, March 20.

Ernest Boyes, arrested at Hamilton for desertion from H.M.S. Pioneer in 1900, was placed on board the vessel. In view of the circumstances of the case the naval .authorities have given Boyes his discharge. He returns to his farm. NEW BRIDGE AT WANGANUI. Wanganui, March 19. The ceremony of driving the first pile of the new bridge over the Wanganui River took place to-day. The bridge is to be of form-concrete, and will cost £26,000. NATIONAL SERVICE LEAGUE. Palmerston, March 19. Mr. Robert McNab has received an invitation from the National Service League, of which Lord Roberts is the president, asking him to undertake a campaign throughout England in the interests of universal service. Captain Kielson, organising secretary, states that the League is organising a special campaign, amongst the working men of England, and refers to the work.done by Mr. McNab during'his visit to England and the defence campaign which ,ho conducted in New ' Zealand as’ : the reasons for making it desirable that be should undertake the new mission.
