Captain Carbery’s popularity was a feature of the camp. * A visit was made by General Godley. and the fort, under which the tentf were pitched, wont through some special evolutions for the occasion, firing a salute and afterwards giving an exhibition of their powers in blowing up rooks. Surf batlnim, swimming races, and sports provided excellent recreation. “We 3 1 ad a military funeral,” he added.
