DOMINION NEWS.

(Per Press Association.) Auckland, February 28. A pathetic case of suicide occurred at Parnell to-day, when a sixteen-year-old lad named George Davies, took prussic acid, and was found dead in the shop of his employer. Deceased left a letter to his mother, saying that he was a rank failure, and was always doing things wrong. The letter concluded, “So good-bye, and as I said before, don’t fret. I am better where I am.” Deceased was looked upon as a' very promising boy. Further details of the tragedy at Parawera show that at about 4.30 a.m. on Tuesday a native in the settlement was attracted to the whare where the tragedy took place by bearing .screams of a woman calling, “He’s killing me.” Running to the whare, the native found the body of the woman lying on the floor, whilst Graham, the husband, was eating rabbit poison. The native rushed away for assistance, and when others arrived they found that the husband had shot himself. The woman appears to have been struck on the head with a gun stock. Her left temple was crushed, and her left arm was broken, as if in warding off blows. A number of wounds also appeared about the head. A revolver, fully loaded, was found in the whare by the police. It was useless, as a small screw had become misplaced. At the inquest to-day, Dr. Henderson stated that the woman’s death was caused by a heavy blow, and that of the man by a gunshot wound. Both were wellknown in the settlement.
