LONDON PRODUCE REPORT. Following is a copy of the weekly report (dated January 11th) received by Mr. Newton King from R. and W. Davidson, Glasgow;— Continental Butters.—We have had a very firm market, and stocks are entirely cleared at an advance of 3s to 4s over last week. Telegraphic advices yesterday from Copenhagen indicate that the market there continues to be very firm, and the quotation today has been declared; unchanged, but with an inclusion of 2 kroner, which is really an advance of 2 kroner on contract dairiesl Danish arid Swedish: The total arrivals of Danish this week show dn- increase of 2679 crises. There was a brisk- ‘active'"-deriiarid for* all grades, and arrivals- are .well cleared at an advance t of, 3s to 4s per cwt.' \ quality<no.wi cofiimanding ,137 s to 1395. Siberian: The total arrivals this casks...>fh es e; ,met ;; witb >anl active .der, mand, and .strictly?/ choicest:‘quality- 1 was rea'dily cleared at 130 s to 1325, ordinary finest commands 128 s to 130 s, and secondary descriptions■ wliicln > cgh main very scarce, can be sold at 122 s to 1265. Colonial Butters.—Australian : The arrivals, this week are fairly liberal, comprising the s.s. Orvieto, with 49,250 boxes, the s.s. Peshawur, with 18,500, and the s.s. -Karamea, with 1441, and tliC/slsl.'Dofset iWith 6253 a grand total of 75,000-boxes. The market opened,a,t ,ths begihning of the week and dti was .generally expected,;thatf :( ,prices ,would,.advance still further. At the moment of writhing, hoivever, the market is a shade quieter, the demand showing; a considerable falling-olf. This, of course, was to be expected, as the buying during the past ten days has been exceptionally heavy. The principal buying of, colonial still continues to be done by the South and West of England merchants,. In the North of England and Scotland, owing to the comparatively lo.w price of Danish, merchants are not inclined to stock very freely. We anticipate that although we may have a slight temporary reaction, prices are bound to rule very high for the rest of the season. We quote to-day choicest quality salted 1345, medium grade command full rates and are almost on a parity with choicest.. Unsalted is still being offered at the same price as salted. New Zealand: The s.s. Turakina butter is now on the market ; there has been a fairly active demand, and stocks are well cleared; choicest goods are being offered at 135 s to 1365. The s.s. Athenic, with about 50,000 boxes on board, is due to dock end of this week.
Imports to the United Kingdom.— The total figures up to 6th January of this year, and for the corresponding periods of 1909, 1910, and 1911, are as follows:—1909, 76,765 cwt; 1910, 76,566 cwt.; 1911, 96,108 cwt.; 1912, 114,791 cwt. Cheese.—Canadian: The market if anything has a slightly'quieter tone, although prices remain unchanged; choicest white and coloured 73s to 745. New Zealand: There has been an active demand, and prices have again advanced about Is per cwt., choicest white and coloured now being quoted 73s up to 745.
