THE FLOWER SHOW.

A FEAST OF BLOOMS AT THE TOWN HALL. OTHER FEATURES EXCELLENT. A feast of flowers is on vie*w at the Town Hall, where the Straford Horticultural Society are holding their autumn show. This year the entries have been well up to tne average, notwithstanding the fact that the Society has. barred the professional men. So far as quality is concerned, it has, in tiie opinion " of eminent judges, never been excelled. A feature of the show is a magnificent exhibit of produce by a Wellington amateur gardener. One big table is piled with the fruits of his garden, ranging from grapes to marrows. Mr. F; Westbury has gone to the expense of sending the exhibit to the show on exhibition only, and ins enterprise is a highly commendable one. In spite'of the unseasonable weather, cut flowers are much in evidence, notably a range of cactus dahlias, a large portion of which are the product of the capable hands of Mr. Davis. The table on which they are arrayed is sure to be the most admired of the flower display, though the more subtle charms of the sweet peas, of which Mr. G. T. James has a good showing, will have their devotees.

In the decorative class the children have done very well indeed, and their exhibit is a creditable one. Good support has been accorded the home industries and cookery departments, which go to make up a very fine disp!ay. It is to be hoped that the Society will be well supported, and that Stratford residents will not miss the opportunity of seeing what the horticulturists can produce. Tliis evening the Orchestral Society will give a splendid programme, and a bumper attendance should lie assured.

The judges, who were at their duties when we wont to press, are:— Pot Plants, Rev. .B. Scott; Cut Flowers, Mr. C. Goodson; Decorative, Mrs Scott and Mrs. Frethcy; Vegetables and Farm Produce* Mr. R. McK. Morison, and Mr. Westbury; Cookery, Mr. G. Young; Fancy Work, Mrs. J. Sutherland.
