Palmerston, February 7

The twenty-ninth annual meeting of the Congregation! Union of,, Mew Zealand opened at Palmerston North to-day. After devotional service tlio council met at noon, the Per. IP R.' Mitchell, of To Kid'i, presiding, and upwards of fifty delegates being present from all oyer the Dominion. Tho annual ronort of the committee

which was adopted, stated that the ' past year had bee-a one of change and also of progress. The committee considered the question of inviting a prominent congregational minister to New Zealand with a view to stimulating the life of the New Zealand churches and had communicated with the manager of the Australasian Union on the subject, and negotiations wore now in progress, and consideration would be given to the matter at the next triennial assembly held at Adelaide next year. The Wellington district was to be congratulated on the success attained by students of congregational history and catechism at the recent local examinations. The application of Green Lane CongVegational Church Auckland, for affiliation was granted. It was resolved that the finance committee be comprised of male delegates, apart from ministers, aided by the New Ze’alhnd churches fund. The following were elected personal members : —Revs. R. Burgoyne, G. Burgess, S. Ferule, R. Grey, M. D. Meadoweroft, and the Rev. Boaden Harris to bo associated with them, lit Was decided to send letters of

sympathy to the Rev. W. J. H. Gloss, Cliristchurcli, in the death of his brother, the Rev. W. Tanner, Waijm, and Rev. Saunders, Dunedin, and Mrs Crawford, Woodville. ' The Rov. S. Griffiths, Devonpoit, was appointed correspondent for English and colonial papers. A big conversazione and rally was 'held to-night, which was largely attended. The Hon. George Fowlds was the principal speaker.
