LONDON WOOL SALES. London, January 27. At the wool sales a big selection of merinos was offered, Yorkshire • and Continental manufacturers buying freely, and Americans taking the best of the crossbreds. WHEAT SHIPMENTS. (Received 29, 9.20 a.m.) London, January 28. The wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,563,000 quarters, and for the Continent 990,000. Atlantic shipments 170,000, Pacific 45,000. The to'tal shipments to Europe for the week amounted to 750,000 quarters, including Argentine 13,000, Russian 105.000, Danubian 117,000, Indian 104.000, Australasian 120,000. BROKEN HILL DIVIDEND. (Received 29, 9.45 a.m.) Sydney, January 29. The Broken Hill Proprietry Company has declared a dividend, of one shilling payable on February 21st. •6 TARANAKI WOOL, SKIN, HIDE, AND TALLOW REPORT. Mr. Newton King’s Report. On Tuesda^ 7 , 16th January, I held my usual four-weekly sale of above produce, the catalogue comprising 159 nales and 212 sacks wool, 930 hides, 3604 sheepskins, 18 casks and 33 tins tallow, 2508 calfskins, besides the usual quantity of horse and cow hair horse tails, bones, etc. There was a good attendance of buyers at the sale, competition being excellent throughout. « • Wool.—Up to time of closing catalogue this was not coming forward very freely, mainly through shearing being delayed and in some cases to the difficulties in getting conveyances to bring the wool in with. I, however, anticipate a big offering at my February sale, when most of the clips will then be in. Prices' for inferior and coarse crossbred were on a par with my last offering, but finer sorts were {-cl higher. Skins. —Values for these ivere on a par with late rates. Hides.—These sold exceedingly well, the market showing an " advance all round. Superior heavy advanced |d, medium and light Jd, ordinary £d to Tallow.—ln sympathy with the London markets, this .receded 20s to 25s per ton. Calfskins.—-Very few now offering, prices at par.
