MARQUIS
ABDICATION POSTPONED
Pekin, January 26,
The Emperor has created Yuan-Shih-Kai a marquis, and an edict has been issued postponing the abdication, pending the decision of the national convention. It reiterates that the Throne desires a peaceful solution.
There has been a revulsion of feelidg in favour of Yuan-Shih-Kai against Tieh-Liang, who is a Manchu. The papers designate Tiech-Liang a truculent madman, who desires to repeat the Boxer outrages of 1900. Chaug-Yang, the Revolutionary Loader, his 'brother and secretary, have been murdered at Mukden. Other assassinations are reported. The Republicans at Yangtse captured Toi-na, the Merchant Steamship Company’s accormtant, and are holding him for a high ransom, , .
