Sydney, January 21. The Randwick Challenge Stakes resulted:—Pride of Murillo 1, Malt Mary 2, Hot Air 3. Won by a length. Time, Imin 13)sec. Sixteen started. January Handicap.—Kurnell 1, Chaste 2, Lady Wilde 3. Won by a length, a head between second and third. The sixteen starters included Wild West. Time, Imin 13) sec.

Melbourne, January 21. At the Caulfield meeting the Tooroonga Handicap resulted:—Magas 1, Sharpshooter 2, Glondook 3. Won by a length and a half. Time, Imin 28 sec.
WELLINGTON MEETING

Wellington, January 20. The Wellington Racing Club's summer meeting opened to-day in doubtful conditions. Short showers fell curly ,u the day, but the weather cleared up as the clay progressed. The attendance was on the short side. Some interesting racing was witnessed, although the fields were not large. The youngsters’ event was a gift for Styx, who had no trouble in annexing the event. The Cup produced a field of fourteen, and a capital race ensued. Undecided was a surprise packet. He came right from the ruck about two furlongs from home, and the rest of the field wore not in the hunt. The Telegraph Handicap provided a good race, Dearest securing a win after a good inside effort. The totalisator figures for the day were £22,675 10s, against £19,307 for the corresponding day of last year. Following are the results :
Nm •sery Handicap, four furlongs.— Styx, 6.7, 1; Canute, 8.0, 2; Warlight,, 6.7, 3. Also started: Glade 8.5, Peroneal 8.2, Stepney and Merton 7.10, Neirene and Obligant 7.3, Imagination 7.0, Scottish Star and Daybreak 6.7. Glade showed the way into the straight, but then faded away, Styx leading the field home by three lengths. Time, 49 2-ssec. Wellington Cup, one mile and a half.—Undecided, 7.9, 1; Midnight Sun, 7.13, 2; Coromandel, 7.7, 3. Also started: Merrivonia and Mendip 8.0, Aberbrothock 7.12, Bliss 7.9, BirkHne 7.3, Patriotic 6.10, Flingot, Kauroa, British Maid, Splash, Royal Marino,6.7. The field got away in a line, which was broken by Coromandel going to the front, followed by Midnight Sun and Bliss, the latter fading away at the seven furlong post. Midnight Sun displaced Coromandel at the bend. Entering the straight Undecided went up from the ruck and won easily by two lengths. Flingot was fourth, -Royal Marine fifth, and Birkline sixth. Time, 2min 34 4-ssec. Trial Plato, seven furlongs.—Outward, 7.4, 1; Kimona. 2; St. Petersburg, 3. Also started: Tripoli, Lady, Volley, Big Blast arid Makara 8.6, Mallard 7.7, Lady Nolan and Sir Donald 7.4. Outward went* the front immediately, and was never headed, winning by four lengths. Time, train 29 l-ssoc. , . ;.7
Ruapehu Handicap; six furlongs.— Sanguinary, 7.7, 1; Dirge, 6.11, 2; Sinapis, 8.11, 3. Also started: Seraphic 8.7, Gay Lawless 8.5, Rongomau 7.12, Kirkby 7.7, Taoriui 7.4, Indra 7.0. Sanguinary took charge four furlongs from home, and won by a head, stalling off a determined challenge by Dirge. Time, Imin 16 ,1-5 sec.
Telegraph Handicap, six furlongs.—• Dearest, 7.5, 1; Nyland, 8.12, 2; Culprit, 8.9, 3. Also started: Equitas, Polymorphous 7.10, Full Rate 8.12, Gipsy Belle 8.10, Ireland 8.4, Herlnia 8.2, Byron 7.12, Faunus 7.8, Merry Frank 7.2, Longstep and Deploy 6.13. Gipsy Belle led for five furlongs. Then Dearest came up on the inside and won by two lengths. Time, Imin 15 l-ssec. Dearest failed to draw the weight in the Telegraph Hand'cap, and the race was awarded to Nyland, and Equitas was placed third.
FOXTON MEETING
Palmerston, January 21. Foxton races opened in fine weather. There was a good attendance, and trie totalisator investments totalleu £10,911, compared with £6852 for last year. Following are tiie results: — Foxton Cup, one mile and a quarter. —Midian (A. McxMillen), 7.4, 1; Julian, 7.9, 2; Matlow, 6.12, 3. Won by two lenguns, a lengtn between second and tnird. Time, 2min 11 l-ssec. Trial Stakes, five furlonsg.—Nukuatu (A. McMillen), 8.5, 1 j Goodform, 8.10, 2; Miss Roberts, 8.10; 3. Won by a length, the same distance between second and third. Time, Imin ssec. Awa'hou Hack Welter, one mile.— Merrie Emexald (A. McCarten), 8.3, 1 ; Waiputere, 8.13, 2i Stevens, 9.11, 3. Won by two lengths, a length between second and third. Time, Imin 45.3-ssec.
Flying Hack, six furlongs.—Blue hake (C. Price), 7.13, 1; Winning Post 6.7, 2 1 Lady Moutoa, 7.9, 3. Won by two lengths, a length between second and third. Time, Imin 17 l-ssec. Dash Handicap, four furlongs.—Eminent (F. Hoult), 7.7, 1; Ineuru, 8.3, 2; Easy, 8.4, 3. Won by a head, two lengths between second and third. Time, 50 4-ssec.
Herrington Welter, seven furlongs— Seaton Dale (A. Neale), 8.0, 1; Con the Shaughran, 2 • Overtime, 3. Won easily. Time, Imin 32 l-ssec.
TARANAKI AUTUMN MEETING
Owners and trainers are finally reminded that nominations for all events to be decided at the Taranaki Jockey Club’s autumn meeting on Feoruavy I t and lo close to-night at 9 o’clock. The programme is one which should find favour with horse owners on ‘recount of the good stakes offered. 'Jhe Taranaki Cup (one mile and u quarter) carries with it 300 sovs., and the Paul Memorial Handicap (one mile and a distance) is worth 200 sovs. The Stewards’, Flying and Grandstand Handicaps are endowed with £l5O apiece. Two hurdle races of £IOO each and various hack events, make uu a fine attraction, and the club’s secretary, Mr. F. P. Webster, should he kept busy this evening. This meeting follows the Egrnont meeting c'osely, and therefore should draw a good number of “outside” horses.
