London, January 21. _ At the wool sales to date 48,679 bales have been offered and 45,631 sold. Prices are firm and unchanged. j Wellington, January 22. ■Following is the High , Commissioncable, dated London, January 20th:—
.Mutton.—The market is quiet. Trade for all sorts is very slow, and prices are barely maintained. Canterbury is not ouoted. North Island 4£d (limited supply). Lamb.—The market is firmer, with more demand. New Zealand, sgcl. Beef.—The market remains firm, •with signs of improvement. N.Z. hinds 33d, fores 3d. Butter.—The market is quieter. There are high prices and it is anticipated that the labour troubles will affect the market. Buyers are holding back, expecting prices to go lower. The average prices for the week for choicest New Zealand butter was 130 s, Austral an 1275, Argentine 1275, Danish 1345, Siberian 1295.
Cheese.—The market is quiet. Prices are slightly weaker. The average price for the week for finest New Zealand cheese was. white 735, coloured 725. Hemp.—The market is firm, but quiet, at the advance - at last quotations. Spot, New Zealand good fair £22, fair £2l, Manilla £22 per ton ; forward shipment, N.Z. good fair £22, fair £2l, Manila £23. The output from Manila for the week was 25,000 bales. Wool.—The market shows signs of strength. Americans are buying crossbreds freely. The market shows signs of strength. Hops.—There is small supply, and a general and active demand. English 13s. Californian 12s.
Kauri Gum.—Dark brown selected re-scraped 110 s to 140 s. dark brown three-quarter scraped 85s to 90s darkbrown chips drossy 30s to 32s 6d rescraped pale amber £ll to £l2,.threequarter pale rescraped £7, diggers’ chips, good 455. There is verv moderate demand. 650 cases were offered and , S °M- The stock on December 31st 1911 was 381 cases. UNION BANK OF AUSTRALIA. (Received 22, 8 a.m.) London, January 21.
