THE HALF-HOLIDAY.

THURSDAY RETAINED. A special meeting of the Borough Council was held last evening previous to the ordinary meeting. The letter from the Retailors’ Association, already published, was read. The Mayor said lie saw no reason to change from the holiday they had had hitherto. The Chamber of Commerce had endeavoured to deal with the matter but people were not unanimous. Thursday appeared to suit the Stratford people best. He knew the farmers would object to Saturday being made the half-holiday, even if it were universal throughout Taranaki. Seeing that this was the case, ho moved that for the ensuing year Thursday be observed as the half-holiday. Cr. McAllister seconded tho motion, which was carried unanimously without comment.
