The Reserves Committee recommended that all reserves at present unlet be offered for lease, at a yearly tenancy bv tender. The Borough Overseer reported as follows:—flfie formation of Portia Street South is in hand. Moral patching has been done on Cordelia Street South, Swansea Hoad, and Cloton Bead. A new 'culvert has been put in Celia Street at its junction Avith Ariel Street. A can entrance has aeon made to AY. V. Wilson’s property, Hamlet Street. Broadway and ,i:em.broke Hoad nave been attended to previous to the holidays. Grass has men cut on various streets in tiie Borough. The work of clearing a farther portion of 'the Kopuataraa Cemetery is in hand. Some of tiie fences at .ho Abattoirs wore warned away during the recent hoaA’y rains—namely, the boundary fence along the creek in iNo. 1 paddock, the dividing fence between No. 1 and 2, tiie div.ding fence aotween 2 and 3, the fence between 3 and 4, and the boundary fence at the end of No. 4 paddoc k. Tiie bridges in No. 1 and 2 paddocks have been washed away. The above fences have been repaired. Please instruct mo re bridges. Waterworks: 11 chains of lin >:pe have been laid in Hamlet Street, and five connections therefrom to the street boundary. All fireplugs have icon inspected and found in good crier. A sewer connection has been put in to Mr. Faul’s property, section 784, Bn isd way, at a cost of £9 12s Gd. Building permits to the value of £3OOO have been issued during tho month. Abattoir Report. The manager of the Abattoir reported that 49 cows, 15 heifers, 1G exon, 8 calves, 203 sheep, 217 lambs, 34 pigs had been slaughtered during the month. Fees for the month - Avcre G 56 3s 9d. Among the condemned stock Averc 2 cows (wholly and 4 partially), 1 sheep (wholly), 2 pigs (wholly), and 1 (partially).—Adopted. Borough Inspector’s Report. The Borough Inspector reported that ho had impounded 57 head of cattle. Six persons were convicted for riding bicycles on the footpatns rad oilo for alloAving cattle to wander, and one for keeping a dog without licenses. He had cautioned a number of people regarding their signs over footbaths being at a less height than provided by the by-laws, fie had also cautioned several people Avhose hedges Avere overhanging footpaths, and these Avere receiving attention.—The report was adopted. ‘ General. During the meeting the Council went into committee over the matter of a “dead horse” which had fallen !,info a gravel pit,, the property of thej.Council.— I Tho Mayor -and Chairman,, of The, Works Committee were, appointed a committee Avith power to. act. .

: i Councillor Lawson moved that a certain fence in Juliet Street be repaired’. He remarked amidst general laughter that he was not bringing. thp, rgattcr, up for “fire and : argument.”—A' Councillor: Whose motor was it?—Another Councillor: We don’t want to get on the same ground again. Mr. J. R. Mackey wrote re comlit’ons for laying off private streets in the Borough- . asking . whether* the Council! had fixed any period of time during i which .(these conditions will .remainiin force.- If no time had been -fixed, he requested that the Council should do so, as it was desirable to give clients some assurance that the condition imposed would not be amended when an application in compliance with them was placed before the Council.—lt was decided to inform Mr. Mackay that ho would he notified : f any change in the conditions at any time. The statement of receipts and cxpmditure for the past month showed that at December 11th the debit balance was £1632 ]7s Gd, and that the expenditure for the month was £233 Is 3d. The receipts totalled £1153 7s 3d (including £951 6s 8d for rates), leaving a debit balance cf £766 14s.
