BOWLING TOURNEY.
THE NORTH ISLAND ASSOCIATION’S' MEETING. THE PRIZE-GIVING. (Per Press Association ) Wellington, January 14. , The anmial tournament of the Northern Association concluded on Saturday on Wellington’s Club’s green. The weather was had, and heavy rain overnight made the greens dead and heavy. Shower's fell at intervals during the day and a high wind swept over the ground and did not improve the play, rile erratic behaviour of howls causing much amusement. ' ' . The tournament, which was the Suggest ever held in ' Now Zealand, was a great success all through, the arrangements being perfect in every way. Some 560 games wore played without the slightest hitch, and the matiigement received warm congratulations. It had been intended to wind up with a big “At Home” on the Wellington green, but the bad weather prevented this, and only some two hundred enthusiasts saw the conclusion of the bug carnival.. . Newtown arid Carlton teams met for the final in the Consolation prize competition. The former team comprisid Mayo (sub), J.' Sexton, Price, and Prince (s.), and the latter, Otter, Gaudin, Lamb and McGregor (s.). Half way Newtown was leading by one point. Both teams played well, Prince’s team untimatoly winning .by m to 21. . \ Victoria and Ponsonby teams mot in the final of the Last Try competition. The teams were:—Victoria: Tucker, Chapman,. Hatch, and Hemingway (s.); Ponsonby, Casey, Beecrop, Snaddon, and Walker (s.)_.
