CREW REACH NELSON THIS MORNING. IN HAPLESS PLIGHT. (Per Press Assoc:atM^.> Nelson, January 11. The shipwrecked crew of the Jane Douglas readied Nelson by the Patcena this morning; Captain Yenclore states that the vessel came through tiie Straits from Wellington to Hok’tika, and a blustering south-castor and boisterous weather continued when entering the passage between Stephen and D’Urville Islands, whore there are several rocks, the vessel piling up on Saddle Rock. The captain declares that Steeple Rock and Saddle Rock arc wrongly charted, the names being transposed. At midnight the vessel was steaming beneath heavy clouds, mid all hands .wore on deck. At .12.20 she struck and sank in five minutes. Despite the blackness, the crew displayed no panic. The mate took charge of the boat. The captain stayed on hoard. The engines were racing furiously, which told of n slumped propeller. The hull listed and slid off the rocks. As the water came level with the decks the captain grasped a lifebelt, hut was sucked under some depth. Ho came up half-drown-ed, clinging to the lifebelt, ns he was unable to swim. After a search the boat found him when in a had way. A course was set for Port Hardy. Aftor some difficulty a lauding was effected. The party were shoeless and half clad. They tramped to Lord’s homestead, where they received every kindness. They wore 1 then taken to French Pass in a launch, and joined the Pateeiin. Tho crew are in hapless plight—some are rootless and shirtless.
