DOES HE KNOW?

ABOUT THE OPUNAKE RAILWAY

In apologising for his absence from the recent annual meeting of the Opunake Seaside Improvement Society, Mr. C. A. Struck, Head master of the Haweri District High School, wrote as follows: 1 regret that an engagement tonight prevents my attending your annual meeting. I wish to express my appreciation of what your Society has done towards making your delightful beach more attractive to visitors. Myself and family and Mr. and Mrs. Reid, of Kilbiiiiic, Wellington, have spent a very pleasant holiday in surf-bathing and in visiting the many historic spots of the district. I know the seaside resorts of Colac Bay and Bluff (Southland), of St. Clair, and of Sumner, and the beautiful Caroline Bay of Timaru, and the attractive Cheltenham beach of Aiickland, hut for delightful surf-bathing, with perfect safety, 1 consider the Opunake amphitheatre beach the best in New Zealand. In less than five years’ timo your railway will 'be completed, and Opunake will then become the Taranaki Seaside Resort, and your Society will bo proud of their efforts in popularising the amphitheatre beach.
