Mo a rs R. H. Robinson and J. H. Hipk.ns have circulated among reta Ims tin following petition, which will be presented to the special meeting of the Borough Council to fix the h.Mi Hhaaj for the year, which js t.. be held' next Monday. Re Weekly Half-holiday.
To the Mayor aiid Councillors of the Borough of Stratford,
Gentlemen,—Wo, the undersigned bona fide retail storekeepers of Stratford hereby urgently request that the weekly half-holiday for the prosent vear bo again fixed for Ihursday as heretofore. We are unanimously of opinion that to change the day for this purpose from Thursday to any other day in the week, especially Saturday, would prove most detrimont.il to the best interests not only of the retailers themselves, but also to tho great majority of the settlers of the district. The farming community, on whom the town principally depends for its business, have been so long accustomed to make Saturday their day of coming to town to transact their business, and procuring thenweekly half-holiday. We feel so sure that such a change would most seriously disorganise business, and incommode the hundreds of settlors round Stratford, that we emphatically enter onr united protest against it. The business routine of the town and its holiday arrangements, during the past years, have proved very satisfactory to all concerned, and we see no reason why steps bo taken by any body to upset existing conditions. We therefore, genii ;mm;, request that your Council will adhere to the present arrange i.eno.
