Some heavy stock losses are recorded. A WEEK OF PRAYER. London, January 9. A universal week of prayer lias been organised by the Evangelical Alliance in every country in the world. THE ILKESTOXE DISASTER. London, January 9. Ilkestone was shaken like an earthquake. The gasometer was Hung thirty yards, and the flames soared hundreds of licet in the air.
The occupants of the demolished cottages had miraculous escapes. Several buildings were burnt, and t'ne debris on the railway caused tiie suspension of traffic. It is believed the gasometer yielded to the pressure of water, causing the gas to escape and ignite. T'ne explosion burst the water boiler, and a torrent flooded the houses and factories. THIRTY-SEVEN KILLED. Ottawa, January 9. Two Canadian-Pacific trains crashed into one another, head-on, at Terrebonne, Quebec. The trains were running at full sliced, and were crowded with passengers, who were attending spftcial Epiphany services. Thirty-seven are reported dead, but it is impossible at present to ascertain the actual number. Many bodies were recovered from the wreckage.
