BRITISH TRADE.
BOARD OE TRADE RETURNS ISSUED. EXPORTS INCREASE. London, January 7. The Board of Trade returns for December were issued yesterday. These show that, compared with December, 1910, there was a decrease of £4,107,447 in the value of imports, an increase of £1,147,769 in the exports of Home products, and a decrease of £1,156,770 in exports of foreign and colonial products. The full figures,’ with those for December, 1910 and 1909, are as follow : Imports: 1911, £65,025,703; *l9lO, £69,133,150; 1909, £60,785,883. Exports: 1911, £38,571,879; 1910, £37,424,110; 1909, £33,789,897. Re-exports: 1911, £8,719,849; 1910, £9,876,770; 1909, £9,634,921. TOTAL TRADE FOR FIVE YEARS. The total trade for the year ended December 31, compared with that of the four previous years, was: — • Imports: 1911, £680,709,230; 1910, £637,440,713; 1909, £624,740,517; 1908, £592,951,487; 1907, £645,807,942 Exports: 1911, £454,282,460; 1910, £430,589,811; 1909, £378,379.444; 1908, £377,103,824; 1907, £426,035.083 Re-exports: 1911. £102,760,799; 1910, £103.776,104; 1909, £91,365,465; 1908, £79,62*3,697; 1907, £91,942,084. The whole of last year’s trade showed an increase, over that of 1910, of £2 f,946,401. Imports were greater by £2.269,057, and exports by £23,692,619, but re-exports fell off by £1,015,305. The total volume of trade has been checked to a considerable degree during the last half-year, owing to s t rike troubles in Britain and the unsettled condition of affairs abroad, especially in the East.
