Meantime considtations are being held with the Admiralty. OREGON MAIL ROBBERY. New York, January 6. Sheriffs’ posses are scouring the country to capture the person responsible for the Oregon express train robbery. Jc transpires that only one robber operated. A reward of iMUO is offered for his capture. A HOTEL DESTROYED. New York, January 6. At Chicago the Tarusit Hotel was burned. The guests escaped to the roof and with a number of girl employees who were trapped on the top ffoor, were rescued by firemen, whoso efforts wore hampered by frozen hydrants.
FOUR PERSONS KILLED. New York, January G. At Cincinnati a street car jumped a bridge, falling 55 feet. Four passengers were fatally, and others seriously, injured, PREventing forest fires. NINE PERSONS KILLED. (Received 8, 8.45 a.m.) Paris, January 7. By a collision between suburban trains at Bondy line persons were killed and seventeen injured. BIG FIRE IN OTTAWA. (Received 8, 8.5 a.m.) Ottawa, January 7. A fire at Toronto destroyed a number of wholesale houses in the centre of the city. The firemen, by great efforts, prevented it sweeping the district. The damage is estimated at £30,000. SECRET PAPERS STOLEN. (Received 8, 8.45 a.m.) Berlin, January 7. • A safe on the cruiser Stettin, containing secret service papers, has been robbed. SUGAR BEET CULTIVATION. (Received 8, 9.50 a.m.) London, January 7. The Anglo-Nctherlands Sugar Corporation, with a capital of £400,000, has been farmed. The propose to cultivate sugar beet in eastern England. BRITISH TRADE RETURNS. (Received 8, 9.50 a.m.) London, January 7. 'The Board of Trade returns show that the imports for December decreased by £4,107,447, and the exports increased by £1,147,769. Reexports decreased by £1,156,770, compared with the previous December.
