BOOKMAKERS FAVOURED BY MR. GLOVER. SIR RUPERT CLARKE’S VIEWS. (Per Press Association ) Auckland, January 4. Giving evidence before the New, South Wales Totalisator Commission, Mr. A. He favoured both the totalisator and bookmakers. Pressed to say which ho would have if he had to make a choice he admitted that the racing public wanted* the totalisator. He believed that if the question were submitted to a referendum both would be abolished. Asked if the totalisator favoured horse owners, Mr. Gloverreplied “No.” Asked why, then, hq'rse owners favoured the totalisator; he said certain big men would rather take less odds from the totalisator than bet with a bookmaker. The Chairman stated that he had received a cable from Sir Rupert Clarke one of the leading racing men of Australia, stating that he intended to advocate the introduction of the totalisator.
