The Postmaster-General states that unless further concessions than reJueed rates for deferred cables are ipeedily forthcoming the Government press subsidising! conference will con;ider the question of the nationalisa;ion of the Atlantic cable., , The Pacific Cable Board has informed the Jommouwcalth Government that the Vustralia-Ncw -Zealand cable would ost £155,000. Tlie total value of he New Zealand .cable traffic was j 30,000 yearly. Of this the Board, vorking one. cable, had been handling ; J20,000. By reductions of the staff ind other economies, the new cable voukl have £6OOO per annum and vould be laid this year.
