PREVEZA THREATENED
BOMBARDMENT OF TRIPOLI

The Duke of Abruzzi has issued an ultimatum to tlio Vali of Preveza stating that unless lie delivered the warships refuging in the harbour the town would be bombarded. Rome, October 4. Vice-Admiral Farauclli reports that in reply to a summons to surrender the Turkish commander asked for a respite. Admiral Farauelli conceded tms until noon yesterday.
Other telegrams stale that the Turkish commander asked time to communicate with Constantinople. Italy refused. The commander thereupon refused to surrender.
The newspaper “Tribune,” in a special edition, reports that the cruisers bombarded Tripoli forts, the Vails Castle, and the highest points of the city. Afterwards a landing was effected and the Italian fiag hoisted on shore.
A message from Taranto says there was much excitement over the disomharkmont of 'Turkish prisoners from the transport Sabah, including a general and several officers of high rank.
'The prisoners were in a sorry condition, owing to the bad weather. The officers wore lodged in a castle and the soldiers in barracks. A RETALIATORY THREAT. Vienna, October 4. Tho newspaper “Diezoit” states that tile Porto nas ordered the expeditionary corps operating in Vonion to occupy the Italian colony of Eritrea. The corps will lie supported by tiie Turkish liotilla in the owed Sea, where Italian merchant ships were already -areatoned and forced to return to .Uassowah.
Constantinople, October 4. The Italian warsnips sank two motor boats at Hadaia and pursued am .destroyer Pcikiciiofket, wnich escaped. Another Italian cruiser was sighted df Dodeagach. Constantinople, October 4. The Cabinet held its third all-night sitting. Hilmi and Nazim Pashas declined office.
Tnere are now eleven warships in the Dardanelles.
The Minister, for Marino states that no resigned because the fleet disobeyed his orders.
The Porto closed Italian shops and appropriated tiie Italian hospital. The Balkan States have declared their strict neutrality.
There has been a 1 remarkable revulsion of feeling in military circles in favour of Britain.
Sir Edward Grey’s reply to the Porte’s appeal regrets that Britain is unable to intervene at present, as t lie lime is inopportune, but that it will cake the first favourable opportunity to do so. The reply has produced a good effect here.

QUARANTINED
(Received 5, 8.5 a.m.) Malta, October 4. A number of Italian, French, >and English war correspondents have been quarantined owing to cholera in Italy.
TURKISH TRANSPORTS CAPTURED.
BOMBARDMENT OF TRIPOLI
(Received 5, 10.40 a.m.) Corfu, October 4
Two Turkish transports near Prcveza and a steamer hying the British dag, and having 170 soldiers and six guns aboard, have been captured. Rome, October 4.
It is officially stated that the batteries at Tripoli incffectamlly replied to the bombardment, which is being resumed to-day. Private houses are being spared, only the lighthouse and the battery being demolished.
ITALIAN STEAMER CHASED
. BRITISH BOAT CAPTURED
(Received 5, 11.10 a.m.) , Romo, October 4
The sinking of the Derna is denied. Five Turkish torpedo boats chased the Italian steamer Molfetta while crossing from Durazzo to Bari. The steamer extinguished her ligiits, and, aided by stormy weather, 'escaped. The British steamer Sheffield was captured at Preveaa, but was released after the Turks’ war material was removed.
Capetown, October 4. Meetings of Mussulmans at Durban and Johannesburg protested against Italy's action.
