January, 1910, the reviewer estimate! that two hundred millions have beer wasted, in constructicng Britain’s railway system, on the laud-owners and the lawyers. He also describes how Bismarck carried out his proposal in Prussia, with the ro'sul that, while ? J fares and rates were much lower than iti England, the Prussian railway: yielded a net profit of more than thirty millions in 1907! Forty year: a.go Mr Williams advocated that the State could take over Britain’s grea, railway monopoly as a going concern without the slightest financial burden or risk, and with complete justice 0 every investor. The saving fo t.i manufacturer, to the merchant, and to the public at large which would have been effected if this had been carried out is incalculable.
