Bashful Lady Bashful Lady, the Gore sprinter, has been nominated for the Stewards’ Handicap and the Canterbury Cup. Royal Lancer, who is one of the initial acceptors for the New Zealand Cup, has also been nominated for the Canterbury Cup. Lord Nuffield In view of adverse reports about the condition of Lord Nuffield in recent weeks, his nomination in the Stewards’ Handicap is an interesting one.

In Cup Again Tlie present field for the New Zealand Cup includes several who figured in the race last season. They are Gladynev 8.11 (second), Wardress 8.1 (third), Lamboum 7.10’4 (fourth), Rakanui 8.8 (fifth), The Raker 7.7 (sixth), Don’t Forget 7.6 (eighth), Piastre 7.3 (ninth), and Night Pal, car. 7.7.

Dunedin Cup Stake , The last occasion the Dunedin Cup carried a stake of £lOOO was in February 1930, when Queen Balboa won. The following year it was reduced to £650, and in 1932 (Red Racer’s year) to £350, including a gold cup valued at £5O. In 1926. Exhibition year, the stake was £l5OO.

Two-Year-Old Mile Record At Belmont Park (U.S.A.), on October 10, Mrs John Hartz’s Counterfleet won the Champagne Stakes, establishing a world’s record for two-year-olds, running tire mile in imin 34 4-ssec. Celebrity The nominations for the Stewards’ Handicap include the chestnut mare Celebrity, who has not been seen out since the Wellington Cup meeting of last season. At the New Zealand Cup meeting Celebrity won the Strowan Plate with 8.7 in Imin -12 sec, and at the Auckland Cup meeting the Robinson Handicap with 8.4 in Imin 27sec. She was third in the Telegraph Handicap with 7.6 to Autolite 8.2 and Sir Beau 9.6 in Imin ll%sec, and finished the season with two unplaced performances. Kindergarten Kindergarten has now won the last 14 races he has started in, and his two successes this season must make the veterinary surgeon in Sydney, who examined him when he broke down and said his racing days were over, do some thinking. Boulder Dam, winner of the Wellington Guineas, was passed as ilisound on his arrival in Sydney after being sold for 450 gs. Mr T. H. Lowry, his breeder, immediately cancelled the sale and brought him back to the Dominion. Out of five starts, Boulder Dam (Tiderace-Symbollo) has now won three times and been second once for Mr Lowry. Melbourne Cup Meeting

The Melbourne Cup meeting will open on November 14, when the V.R.C. Derby and the Maribyrnong Plate (two-year-olds) will figure as the principal attractions. The Melbourne Cup will be decided on the following Saturday, November 21. Dark Felt, winner of the Moonee Valley Gold Cup, is a Queensland-bred son of Spearfelt, a lineal descendant of Carbine. His dam, Gallant Elsa, is by Top Gallant from Eisa Craig, by Kenilworth (bred in France) from Eily, by Wallace, son of Carbine. Dark Felt is bred both ways to the Carbine-Musket sire line. Last season the Moonee Valley Cup was won by the New Zealander Yours Truly, writes Sir Modred.

Tranquil Star It is announced from Australia that as the result of her success in the Caulfield Cup and probably influenced by her win in the W. S. Cox Plate at Moonee Valley, Tranquil Star, originally handicapped at 8.10, will now have to carry 9.6 in the Melbourne Cup on November 21. Success in weight-for-age races does not entail increased weight in the Melbourne Cup, except where A.J.C. and V.R.C. Derby winners are concerned, writes Sir Modred. Tranquil Star is apparently at the top of hex - form, as she won the W. S. Cox Plate on Saturday by more than five lengths and made her opponents look cheap. TROTTING The Invercargill Trotting Club established a record at its spring meeting on Saturday. The totalizator turnover of £22,966/10/- was easily the best one-day turnover at a trotting meeting held in Invercargill. It was an excellent start for the new totalizator management, which was having its second meeting in Southland and the first in Invercargill. Apart from the financial success, the meeting was one of the best conducted fixtures run by the club. New Zealand Trotting Cup The New Zealand Trotting Cup will be run at Addington on Saturday. Favourites Pay - Favourites returned 13 dividends at tire Invercargill Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. Blackdale Blackdale, winner of the Travis Memorial Handicap on Saturday, is a four-year-old black gelding by Sandydale-Jessie Keith, owned by Mrs M. Clark (Winton) and trained by W. Cosgrove. He was driven by T. H. Gunning. Sea Max Sea Max has put up some excellent performances against the pacers, but she struck some smart Improvers in her races on Saturday and could not foot it with them at the business end. AVONDALE MEETING (P.A.) AUCKLAND, November 2. Gay Miss is an acceptor for the Electric Handicap at the Avondale meeting. TENNIS DRAW Following is the draw for B grade tennis matches on Saturday:—Gladstone v. Bluff at Gladstone; Invercargill v. St. Mary’s at Invercargill; Walkiwi v. Southern at Waikiwi; Southend v.
