WAIHOPAI SPORTS ASSOCIATION
Annual Meeting
The annual meeting of the Waihopai Sports Association was held on Saturday night, Mr William C. Bell presiding over a fair attendance of members.
The annual report stated that the buildings, grounds and playing areas of the association were in good order. Through the generosity of Mr Jules Tapper an area of land adjoining the association’s grounds had been taken over by the City Council and a portion of the land leased to the association at a peppercorn rental for extension of the various playing areas. The membership of the bowling club showed a fair increase and those of the croquet club and basketball club a small decrease. The tennis club had suffered because of the large number of members on military service. The year had ended with a credit balance of £7O/3/9, compared with £77/2/9 at the end of the previous year.
The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr William C. Bell; vice-presidents, Mesdames H. Alabaster and T. Noble and Mr Gus Tapper; honorary secretary, Mr E. Stout; honorary auditor, Mr V. Wise; committee, Mrs R. G. Morrison and Messrs W. H. Boyes and A. McCallum. It was decided to recommend to the incoming committee that the levy on the Basketball Union should be raised to 5/- a team to bring it more in accordance with the levies on other clubs. The meeting approved of suggestions made by a sub-committee of the bowling club for laying out the new area of land recently leased to the association by the City Council.
