NAVAL TRAINING SHIP
N.Z. Men Commissioned
(Special Correspondent, N.Z.P.A.)
LONDON, October 31.
Many members of the Royal New Zealand Volunteer Naval Reserve who have served in warships accompanying convoys to Russia and Malta are now in H.M.S. King Alfred, taking commissions.
The High Commissioner, Mr W. J. Jordan, when visiting the officers’ training ship, met 91 New Zealanders. He learned from Captain J. N. Pelly, C.8.E., the commanding officer, of the very high opinion in which they are held. He also learned that a group of New Zealanders invariably secures the highest average marks of all the Empire entrants in psychological and intelligence tests. Hundreds of New Zealanders have now been in the King Alfred. Mr Jordan, addressing those present, paid a tribute to Captain Pelly for the interest he has taken in them.
