CUSTOMS RETURNS FOR INVERCARGILL

Beer duty showed an advance in the general customs receipts at Invercargill for the month of October. Net customs receipts were slightly lower than for October of last year, but the war expenses taxes, the rate of which was doubled last May, were more than twice the amount of last year. The figures for October of 1942 and 1941 are:—

The sales tax for October totalled £99,428 against £98,977 and for the 10 months it was £968,561 against £945,274; the beer duty amounted to £13.338 against £B9BB and for 10 months £121,677 against £85.640; the war tax to £358,014 against £131,796 and for the 10 months £2,501,365 against £1,255,390.
