RED CROSS NOTES
A street day will be held on Wednesday, November 25. There will be a special meeting of delegates of the Invercargill subcentre on Wednesday next in the depot, Esk street, at 8 p.m. Delegates should note change in time of meeting. Circulars will be forwarded to all sub-centres during the coming week. Next week the members of the AvenalNorthend committee will be in charge of the depot, Esk street. The members of North Invercargill branch will visit the hospital to help with the sewing if required. East Invercargill.—There will be a meeting of the sewing guild members on Thursday at 2.45 p.m. in the Mitchell street kindergarten hall. A full attendance is requested. Georgetown.—The committee acknowledges with thanks the following donations: Mr P. A. Poole, 10/-; “Anonymous,” 5/-. Waikiwi.—Members will meet for sewing at the residence of Mrs A. Fraser, North road, on Thursday, at 2.30 p.m. Voluntary Aid Notices.—The new first aid class will begin on Monday, November 2, at 7.15 p.m. Enrolments may be made at the office from 6.45 p.m. The hygiene and sanitation class will be held on Tuesday at 7.15 p.m. This is the final lecture. The examination will take place on Tuesday, November 10. The home nursing class will be held on Wednesday at 7.15 p.m. Joint Committee of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society.—The committee acknowledges with thanks the following donations.—Mossbum Red Cross sub-centre, £5; sale of dolls, £1; Gladstone, 15/-; Mrs J. McLeod, 10/-; Wairio sub-centre, £2 17/10. Red Cross V.A.D.’s.—The following candidates were successful in the recent home nursing examination; Intermediate, Misses W. Sinclair (honours), J. Cockeriil, V. Reid, M. Mabson, M. McLeod, D. Fischer, D. McArthur, D. Taylor and Mesdames I. Stoddart and M. Stirling (pass); elementary, Miss D. Thomson (honours). PATRIOTIC NOTES The packing of parcels will be continued next week by South A on Monday and Tuesday and by South B on Thursday and Friday. Knitted goods have been received from the following: Central, South Invercargill Women’s Institute, Ryal Bush W.D.F.U. and patriotic committee, Wairio, South B. Springhills W.D.F.U., Browns W.D.F.U., East Invercargill, Wallacetown, South A and Tussock Creek. SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS Avenal-Northend.—The monthly meeting will be held at the home of Mrs John Macdonald on Wednesday at 2 p.m. The monthly collection is in progress. Georgetown.—During the past month the 1 following goods have been handed in to the depot: Forty-eight balaclavas, 27 scarves, 18 pairs of socks, 17 pairs of mittens and 2 pairs of gloves. Gladstone.—The monthly house-to-house collection begins next week. East Invercargill.—The committee wishes to acknowledge donations from Mrs Dunlop (£1), Mrs W. H. Ward (10/-), Mrs Buckingham (10/-), and Mrs Henderson (8/-).
AUXILIARY NOTES Army recruiting drive: Miss Jean Erwin, W.A.A.C. Commandant, Southern Military District, will address a public meeting in the U.F.S. hall at 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 5. All members must attend this meeting and may bring interested friends. E.P.S. armbands.—lt is necessary for members to have their names and addresses plainly printed on the outside of their E.P.S. armbands.
Canteen group.—A shift from area 4 will operate the field canteen today and a shift from area 5 on November 7. Area 11 will be on duty at the waste paper depot on Friday, November 6. Physical fitness classes.—A class will be held on Wednesday from 6.45 to 7.45 p.m. This will be the last evening class of the season. The Monday afternoon class will continue in the meantime. Military drill will be held on Wednesday, November 11.
