Mrs T. E. Pennington, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs A. E. Bath, Lees street. Mrs J. R. Sutton, Earnslaw street, will return tonight from Christchurch. Mrs Alan Angus, Lumsden, left on Thursday to spend a holiday at Rotorua. Mrs F. Warner. Auckland, has returned after a visit to her sister, Mrs G. W. Woods, Elies road.
Miss Philippa Hodge. Gladstone Terrace, leaves for Wellington on Tuesday to join the W.R.N.S. . .. Mrs R. M. Hiddleston, Wellington, is the guest of her sister, Mrs H. R. Gibson, Don street. I Mrs H. R. Gibson, who has been visiting I Invercargill, will leave on Tuesday for Christchurch. I Mrs A. F. Speight, Redcliff, has returned from a visit to Christchurch and Wellington. , , Mrs W. Parish, Christchurch, has returned home after spending a holiday with Mrs A. T. Gulliver, Kelvin street. The Rev. P. L. A. Crampton and Mrs Crampton, Auckland, are the guests of Mrs James Simpson, Mary street. Mrs R. N. Todd, Avenal, has returned after visiting her daughter, Mrs lan Wilson, Hanmer Springs. Mrs A. Owen-Johnston, Wellesley Avenue, and Mrs H. S. Mitchel. Herbert street, will return tonight from Hampden. Misses Merle Gulliver, Kelvin street, and Kathleen Springford, Yarrow street, will return on Monday after spending a holiday in Wellington, Christchurch and Blenheim. Mr and Mrs Butt, Waikiwi, entertained a number of friends at a party in honour of the coming of age of their daughter, Miss Edna Butt. Mr J. R. Thomson presented his niece with a key and wished her long life and happiness. Items were given by Missses Barker and Shirley Lee, Mrs Maltby and Messrs McConachie and Ogilvie. Wives of soldiers overseas or in camp have few opportunities for freedom from family ties. Local Plunket Aids have come to the assistance of these women and are giving up some of their free time each week to looking after small children and babies while their mothers have a few hours of much needed relaxation away from household cares and worries. The Invercargill E.P.S. has many excellent women members who are enthusiastic and efficient workers. However, there is a need for more women for the identification squad attached to the Law and Order Unit. The E.P.S. executive appeals for women to volunteer for this work for which a good programme of training has been arranged. Intending members should enrol at the secretary’s office, Kelvin street, or the Police Station, Esk street. ENGAGEMENT The engagement is announced of Dorothy Isobel, daughter of Mr and Mrs H. S. Miller, “Glencairn," Thames Highway, Omarau, to Oliver Gibson, youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs A. S. Scott, Melbourne street, Invercargill. 4746
