ADDITIONS TO R.S.A. CLUB
Plans Again Revised
Plans for the additions that are to be made to the club rooms of the Invercargill R.S.A. were approved several weeks ago and permission to proceed with the building was obtained from the Building Controller. So far, however, a start has not been made with the work. The reason for the delay is an alteration in the plans. When the executive of the association went into the question of costs it was found that the money in hand was not sufficient to carry out the work in accordance with the plans that had been approved. Because of the many calls that are now being made on the public the association is reluctant to launch an appeal for further financial assistance. When it was decided about a year ago to establish a building fund the objective was about £BOOO, and the Pj al l s then included a large assembly hall, the land for which was leased to the association by the City Council at a peppercorn rental. Soon after the building fund campaign was launched the entry of Japan into the war completely changed the international situation. The campaign, therefore, was not carried on with any vigour, and though there is now a considerable sum in hand it falls far short of the original objective. So the original plans had to be drastically curtailed, and now rising costs have necessitated a further revision. The revised plans provide for the extra accommodation that is urgently needed and permit of additions as funds become available.
