WOOLCOTT FORBES IN CUSTODY IN MEXICO

N.S.W. SEEKS EXTRADITION

(Rec. 10.50 p.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 27. Immediate action to have Woolcott Forbes returned to Australia after his arrest in Mexico City have been announced by the Premier of New South Wales, Mr W. J. McKell. Forbes was formerly managing director of the Producers’ and General Finance Corporation, Limited, Sydney. In January 1939 he was arrested in Bombay on charges alleging conspiracy to cheat and defraud the shareholders of several companies of large sums. He disappeared while on bail and later at various times was reported to have been seen in France and Eire.

Forbes was declared bankrupt in Sydney in 1940. He built a 40-roomed mansion here at an estimated cost of £54,000. Two men alleged to have been former associates of Forbes were sentenced last year to terms of imprisonment up to five years for fraud.
