The 8th Army has launched its great offensive against Field-Marshal Rommel’s Army about 60 miles west of Alexandria. The opinion has been expressed in London that a British victory would lead to great developments and the Italians are reported to fear an invasion of Sicily. At the same time there arc rumours in the Near East that the Allies may establish a second front in the Balkans. Control of the North African coast-line would greatly improve the Allies’ strategical position.
