TE RANGI WINS AT NORTHEND Five games without defeat gave a Te Rang! rink well-earned success in the | Northend Bowling Club’s Labour Day ] tournament yesterday. Hie rink con- i sisted of P. McCallum, F. Ayling, D. M. Andrew and G. J. Hope, all of whom participated in rink successes last season. Te Rang! met the Hokonui rink, skipped by D. F. Tait, in the final, and won an interesting game by two points. Hokonui held a good lead early hi the game, but good drawing by the Te Rangi leads, McCallum and Ayling, enabled Te Rangi to tie on the last head. An extra end was played and Te Rangi scored two shots and won the game and the tournament by 19 points to 17. Conditions for playing were fairly good, and in spite of a dead green some good bowls was played. The play was followed by an interested gallery of spectators, among whom were the veterans, Messrs J. H. Loudon, J. Holloway, W. Lillicrap and T. Pryde, all champions of other years. Mr F. Daubney was supervisor and umpire. Results of games were as follows: — SECTION A First Round.—Northend (G. WAIKIWI RINKS TOURNAMENT The Waikiwi Club’s rinks tournament attracted a full green of rinks from all of the city clubs, and at the end of a successful day in good playing conditions a Georgetown rink skipped by R. L. Taggart, of Southland, won from H. Halligan’s Waikiwi rink. Halligan’s rink was the only rink to go through section play undefeated. Three rinks tied in the other section and in the play off Taggart’s rink beat both the Te Rangi rink, skipped by E. G. Freddy, and the Waikiwi rink skipped by C. Watson. Mr H. Irwin was green supervisor and umpire. Following are the results:— SECTION A First Round—Te Rangi (Froggatt) 21, Northend (Bath) 7; Georgetown (Taggart) 18, Invercargill (Gardner) 7; Southland (Brown) 15, Waihopai (McKay) 7; Te Rangi (Preddy) 17, Waikiwi (C. PAIRS TOURNAMENT AT GORE

A successful pairs tournament was conducted by the Gore Bowling Club on the Gore and Hokonui greens yesterday. Conditions were ideal, the weather being fine and the greens being in splendid order. AU Eastern Southland clubs were represented and players were also present from Invercargill. Competition was keen throughout the day and there were many closely contested games. The tournament was won by Carolyn and A. Tinnock, who beat G. McQuarrie and A. J. Clearwater in the final. The final was played on the Gore green in the evening and it was a keenly contested match, Tir.nock winning by 20 points to 15. Following are the detailed results: — GORE GREEN Section A

First round: Bochel and W. Scobie 13, A. Wallis and C. Hamilton 10; G. Frame and W. Chaplin 15, R. Jones and I. W. Martin 9; H. Graham and W. Stewart 15, Eunson and W. Moir 12.
