TRANQUIL STAR WINS CAULFIELD CUP
(Rec. 12.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 25. There was an excellent attendance and ideal conditions for the Victoria Amateur Turf Club’s meeting at Flemington. Results:—
BURWOOD HANDICAP, £5OO. About one mile.— First Division: MERMERAN (H. Badger) 1, AMANA (A. Breasley) 2, PARIDA (S. Ralph) 3. Twenty-four started. A length; two lengths. Time, 1.41|. Second Division: PICKAWAY (H. Morris) 1, VICTORY ROLL (T. Unkovich) 1, DENNIS JAMES (W. Beresford) 3. Twenty-one started. A neck; three-quarters of a length. Time, 1.41 J. CAULFIELD CUP, £6500 and trophy. About one mile and a-haIf.—TRAN-QUIL STAR (A. Breasley) 1, HEART’S DESIRE (H. Morris) 2, EL GOLEA (V. Hartney) 3. Scratched: Tuhitarata, Damalis. Colonus tried to lead always and was two lengths clear at the straight entrance. Then he was challenged by Tranquil Star. Heart’s Desire in a strong finish was beaten by a neck, with one and three-quarters lengths between second and third. Then came Colonus, Skipton, Amazed, Sir Rocket, Darkfelt, with Trapper last. Time, 2.32|. RANDWICK RESULTS (Rec. 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 25. Following are the results of the Randwick races on Saturday:— CITY TATTERSALLS CUP.— IT’S FUNNY 8.12 (Bartie) 1, MAIN TOPIC 7.11 (O’Donnell) 2, MOONDAREWA 7.12 (J. Thompson) 3. Twenty started. A neck; one and a-half lengths. Time, 2.19 L FLYING HANDICAP.— SOHO 8.6 (Mulley) 1, FLYING KNIGHT 9.4 (McMenamin) 2, TRIMMER 9.0 (Shean) 3. Thirteen started. Half a length each way. Time, 1.10.
