FOOD PARCELS TO WAR PRISONERS
WELLINGTON, October 24. -All food parcels forwarded from dif—ferent parts of the Empire go into a common pool at Geneva and are thence forwarded to camps where British prisoners are interned. The Prisoners of War Office, Wellington, has just received a big batch of acknowledgment cards dated June and July for parcels packed in Canada by volunteer workers of the Canadian Red Cross on behalf of the New Zealand Sick and wounded Fund. They were acknowledged by men from many famous British regiments.
The office has received advice from the British Red Cross that the invalid comforts section has increased supplies of invalid comforts, food and medicines to medical officers of camps and hospitals to enable them to issue extra nourishment and remedies in any emergency that may arise. Two lists this week contain names of 415 prisoners bringing the total to 7256 as follows:—Army, 6948; Air Force, 218; Navy, 16; merchant seamen and civilians, 39; miscellaneous, 35; unofficial 4.
