NEW DANCE HALL

The Princess Theatre, which was purchased some months ago by the Roman Catholic community at Gore and which will be renamed St. Mary’s Hall, is to be converted into a modern dance hall. The plans have been approved and tenders will shortly be called for the reconstruction work. The plans provide for the complete renovation of the interior and the construction of a new floor sprung on metal on the lines of the most modern halls in the South Island. One of the main tasks in the alterations will be the lifting of the floor, which at present slopes from the back, and re-laying it level on heavy springs. The measurements of the main body of the hall will be 64 feet by 36 feet. The first portion of the hall under the gallery is to be reconstructed and men’s and women’s cloak rooms built in, with the addition of conveniences. Extensive alterations are also planned for the staging. The present stage is to be reduced in size and the dressing rooms at the back removed to provide for a supper room measuring 20 feet by 28 feet. Alongside the supper room on the east side will be a kitchen measuring 28 feet by eight feet.
