ALLEGED BREACHES OF REGULATIONS

Control Of Building

Materials

(P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, October 23. Charges involving alleged breaches of the regulations governing the control of building materials, the first to be instituted in the Dominion, were made in the Magistrate’s Court at New Plymouth today against Ernest Colin Hayton, of New Plymouth, plumber’s merchant, and Metal Workers, Ltd., of New Plymouth, metal goods manufacturers, in which Hayton is also a shareholder. Sixteen charges against Hayton were all of a similar nature and alleged that, being the owner according to the regulations of certain quantities of plain and corrugated iron which came within the restriction of the regulations, he did, in parting with it, fail unlawfully to comply with the directions given under the Supply Control Emergency Regulations 1939. The transactions connected with the alleged disposal of the goods were spread over a period from April 17 to July 31, 1942. Two charges against Metal Workers, Ltd., alleged that on July 17, 1942, at New Plymouth with intent to deceive they made false statements in a written communication with Douglas Shaw. The hearing was continued tonight and is expected to last some days. Twentyfour witnesses are to be heard.
