ESCAPE FROM GREECE
TWO SOLDIERS RECEIVE MILITARY MEDAL
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 22. Military Medals have been awarded to two New Zealanders who have returned to their units after being posted as missing in the campaign in Greece. They are:— Driver Frederick Foley (next of kin, Mrs M. K. Foley, Auckland). Staff-Sergeant William George Penney (next of kin, Mrs B. Penney, Kaikohe). Driver Foley was born at Awanui in 1917. He enlisted in October 1939 and left New Zealand with the Ist Echelon with the reserve motor transport company. He was reported missing after the Greek campaign in June 1941. After the occupation of that country by the enemy, he escaped and returned to Egypt in June 1942. Sergeant Penney was born at Whangaroa in March 1906. He enlisted in September 1939 and left New Zealand with the 2nd Echelon. He was reported missing in Greece, then reported a prisoner of war. He was reported safe in the New Zealand base camp in the Middle East in June 1942.
