TRIBUTE TO SIR ROBERT ANDERSON
“Since our last meeting Southland mourns the loss of one who, throughout Iris lifetime, was vitally associated with the development of the business and pastoral pursuits of the province,” said the president of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce (Mr J. N. Armour) at a meeting of the council yesterday in a reference to the dea(h of Sir Robert Anderson who had been a member of the chamber. While carrying ever-in-creasing business responsibility, which in itself would tax the energies of the average man, Sir Robert had reserved time to serve as a helpful executive member of almost every board and committee constituted in the interests of local government. Sir Robert had been diligent in. all things and he would stand out as a pioneer builder and patron of every movement established for the betterment of his fellow beings. He had richly deserved the honours bestowed upon him. A motion of sympathy with his relations was passed. Reference to the death of Sir Robert Anderson was made at the monthly meeting of the Southland branch of the Great War Funds Administrative Committee of the joint council of the Order of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society, and a motion of sympathy with his relations was curried. For many years Sir Robert presided at the annual meetings of the society. A motion of sympathy with the relations of Sir Robert Anderson was passed at a meeting of the Southland branch of the Royal Society of New Zealand last night.
