STEAMER SAILINGS.— Because of alterations in the sailing hours of the express steamers between Wellington and Lyttelton all passengers booked for sailings between October 23 and the end of October are requested to communicate with one of the Union Company’s offices.—P.A. TRAFALGAR DAY.— Yesterday was the 137th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar—the great sea fight between the British and the combined French and Spanish fleets, fought off Cape Trafalgar on October 21, 1805. The British fleet, under Nelsen, consisted of 27 ships, and was opposed to a Franco-Spanish force of 33 ships, commanded by Villeneuve. It was during the height of the engagement that Nelson received his mortal wound. Fifteen cf the enemy’s ships were taken or destroyed. and of' the 18 that got away two were wrecked on October 24 and four were later captured. No British ships were lost in tlie engagement.
