DELAY IN CONSENTING TO PROSECUTION

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 21. Reference to the statement made by the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, in the Supreme Court at Palmerston North on Tuesday at the retrial of Charles Gough was contained in notice of a question placed on the order paper in the House of Representatives today by Mr W. P. Endean (Nat., Remuera). He asked the At-torney-General, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, to explain the reason for the delay in giving his consent to the trial of Gough, branch secretary of the Dairy Factory Workers’ Union, on a charge of making a subversive statement on February 24. Mr Endean, in a note to the question, said consent had been given two days before the expiration of six months.
