OBITUARY
DR FREDERICK STOCK (Rec. 7.20 p.m.) CHICAGO, Oct. 20. The death occurred suddenly of Dr Frederick Stock from heart failure. He was a noted musical conductor. MR WILLIAM SATCHELL (P.A.) AUCKLAND. October 21. The death has occurred of Mr William Satchell, author of the New Zealand novel. “The Greenstone Door.” He was 82 years old. He wrote prose and verse in England before coming to New Zealand in 1886. He settled at Hokianga and came to Auckland in the early nineties. MR W. T. COOK ( P.A.) AUCKLAND, October 21. The death is announced of Mr William Thompson Cook, aged 77. proprietor of The Rodney Times. He had been engaged in journalism throughout the Dominion. MR JAMES GEARY The death occurred at Patea recently of Mr Janies Geary, aged 75 years. He was the second son of Mr John Geary, a pioneer of the Otago Peninsula. He began farming in Otara, Southland, and was a director of the Otara Dairy Company, but after a few years he disposed of his farm and went to the North Island some 50 years ago to join his two brothers, Messrs George and Thomas Geary, who had taken up land at Meremere, Taranaki. Mr Geary became first ch 3l ™ 3l } of the Meremere Dairy Company and later the three brothers for three years operated their own dairy factory as a proprietary company. On the disposal of the proprietary factory, Mr Geary took up land at Manutahi in 1909. and lived there up to the tune of his death, except for short periods at Patea and at New Plymouth. He is survived bv his wife, formerly Miss Burt, of Dunedin, three sons and two daughters.
MR J. W. ROGERSON
The death occurred in Oamaru last Thursday of Mr John William Rogerson, at the age of 49. Mr Rogerson was born at Seaward Downs. He joined the Post and Telegraph Department in Invercargill in 1909 rind after being stationed at Auckland, Palmerston North and Dunedin, was transferred to Oamaru in 1918. He remained there until 1923, when he went to Dunedin, where he was stationed for two years. He returned to Oamaru in 1925 and carried on his duties in the mail room of the post office until his death. Apart from his business activities, Mr Rogerson was best known in Oamaru for his social work at the Sailors’ Rest. For many years he was secretary and then treasurer of the Steward street Gospel hall. He is survived by his wife, two brothers and three sisters.
