APPEAL BOARD
Sittings Arranged The Southland Armed Forces Appeal Board is to hold sittings in Invercargill on October 27, 28 and 29. The board will hold another sitting in the city on November 3 and this will be followed by sittings at Wyndham and Mataura on November 4 and at Gore on November 5 and 6. The board is likely to have a busy time at these sittings as appeals concerning 930 of the 1380 men in the seventeenth ballot have been received. In addition there are a number of cases concerning men who were graded 3 by the doctor and have since been called up for camp duties. There are also a number of appeals pending from or on behalf of men called up for service with the Home Guard, but because of the large number of appeals against Army service it is not known when the board will have an opportunity of dealing with these. Another ballot is due to be published on November 11, and if the proportion of appeals is as heavy as it has been in the seventeenth ballot, then the staff of the board’s office and the members of the board can look forward to a busy time until the end of the year at least.
