BOWLS

Green Opened For Play

Bowlers had conditions much to their liking for the opening of several of the greens in town and country on Saturday. The greens were dry and fast, and although a strong wind was blowing the conditions were good. Opening ceremonies were held by the Waihopai, R.S.A., Bluff, Tuatapere and Stewart Island clubs. At Waihopai there was a big attendance of bowlers from many clubs. Mr G. Tapper, the president, welcomed visitors and declared the green open for play. Mr T. D. Pearce represented the Southland Bowling Centre. There was also a good attendance at the opening of the R.S.A. green. Mr A. Dixon, the president of the club, declared the green open for play and Mrs Dixon rolled the first bowl. Mr A. McKenzie represented the Southland Bowling Centre. The Bluff green was opened for play by Mr W. J. Parry, president, and Mrs Parry rolled the first bowl. The visitors included Messrs D. K. Torrance and D. M. Scandrett, members of the Southland Bowling Centre. Mr Torrance also represented the New Zealand Bowling Association.
