Caulfield” guineas Win For Great Britain (Rec. 6.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, October 18. Great Britain proved beyond doubt that he is the outstanding three-year-old of the season with a brilliant win in the Caulfield Guineas at Flemington yesterday. He was started on the extreme outside, which is regarded as an extremely difficult task from the mile barrier, yet he won comfortably. He led over the last three furlongs and held off a strong challenge by Amazed, who, although game, was no match for the winner. Chatfield was a moderate third. Register improved on recent efforts to finish fourth. Graintrader and Lea Hero disappointed. The winner’s trainer, H. E. Feedman, won the Guineas previously with Lucrative. Great Britain cost 850 guineas as a yearling. His connections refused a big offer last week. There was a sensational finish in the Caulfield Stakes, which resulted in a narrow win for Tranquil Star from Tunitarata and True Flight. It was an unpopular victory, as Tranquil Star had failed the previous week. A scrimmage near the post affected the chances of True Flight and David Innis. A protest against the first two by True Flight resulted in the protest being upheld against Tuhitarata, but it was dismissed against the winner. The horses mentioned pleased their Cup Admirers, but the honours were with True Flight. Velocity and Pandect were High Road improved on recent form. The Caulfield Cup lightweights, Portfolio and Colonus, provided a surprise by winning the Herbert Power Handicap divisions. Wilson, with an improved effort, finished third in the First Division. Son of Aurous heartened his Melbourne Cup admirers by a strong effort, finishing third in the Second Division. Having his first start for some months, the New Zealand-bred Crojick finished btilliantly and won the Toorak Handicap. Darkfelt was unlucky and was hampered at a critical stage.
