VISIT OF AIR FORCE BAND Yesterday was a gala day for Gore, when the band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force made its first official visit to the town. The programme for the day began at 2.15 p.m., when a most impressive street parade was held. Immediately after this the band gave a brilliant display of ceremonial marching and then played several selections. In the evening a successful concert was held in the Regent Theatre,! and then later members of the band supplied the music at a dance held in the Theatre Royal. The band will leave Gore for the north today. A welcome to the band and to the troops was extended by the Mayor (Mr W. D. Shelton). He said that the band had been instrumental in raising large sums for patriotic funds during its tours of the Dominion, and lie was sure that its visit to Gore would be as successful as in other centres. Lieutenant-Colonel E. J. Anderson, officer commanding a southern military camp, ana Flight-Lieutenant Gladstone Hill, conductor of the band, also spoke. Flying Officer C. W. Gillies also addressed the crowd and appealed to the youths of the town to join the Air Training Corps. While the band was entertaining the crowd members of the W.W.S.A. took up a.collection for patriotic funds. A flag collection, was also made and as a result of these efforts £143 was raised. MILITARY PARADE.— This afternoon one of the biggest military displays ever seen at Gore will be staged in Main street. Troops from a southern military camp will be on parade in the town and the main display will be given in the centre of the business area at 3 o’clock.
