SUNDAY CONCERT

Use Of High School Ground Refused An application by the Civic Band for permission to use the area in front of the Boys’ High School for one of a series of Sunday concerts which it proposes to give in different parts of the city to raise money for the band’s funds was refused by the Southland High Schools Board at. its meeting yesterday. The chairman, Mr W. Bell, said that the school grounds were not a public park. The policy of the Education Department was against allowing school grounds to be used for Sunday entertainments, to which some people objected. Personally he did not object to the band giving concerts on Sundays, but there were those who did, and they had to be considered when it came to the question of granting the use of the High School grounds.
