FREEZING WORKS DAMAGED BY FIRE
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, October 14. Damage estimated at about £lO,OOO was caused this morning at the Westfield Freezing Company's works when fire destroyed the skin-drying plant, which is part of the wool and sheepskin department adjoining the slaughtering block. A good save was made by the company’s volunteer fire brigade in conjunction with a number of suburban brigades. The manager of the company, Mr A. G. Bryan, said the cause of the fire had not been discovered, but it was believed to be due to a fault in the installation. He said production would not be held up and the damage would be repaired before December when skin-drying operations would be most needed.
