MACHINERY BREAKS CAUSE MINE STOPPAGES

Because of a breakdown in the ventilation system, one of the two Wairaki mines, the new mine, was idle on Monday. The old mine continued operations and work was resumed in the new mine yesterday. A break in the main haulage winch prevented any work being done in the Mossbank mine on Monday and yesterday, but it is expected that work will be resumed today. Work in the mines in the Ohai and Nightcaps districts on the back Saturday has been discontinued since the end of September, as this marked the end of the period during which the Government asked the men to work on this particular day.
