(P.|A.) WELLINGTON, October 10. Information received by the Prisoners of War Inquiry Office from the International Red Cross, Geneva, shows how mail from New Zealand has been received by prisoners. The details include the dates of dispatch from the Dominion, the number of letters and the dates of arrival. • The approximate number of letters dealt with, February to the end of April posting, is 33,200. Some months ago the Inquiry Office made arrangements for razor blades to be sent from England to prisoners and it has been confirmed by the High Commissioner’s Office that, in August, 17 large cases were shipped, each containing packages already addressed to British camp captains at all camps containing New Zealanders. Provision was made for 24 blades to each man with a margin for additional men, particularly in Italian camps. Captains are to hold the balance of the issues for new prisoners as required. Notification is again given by the office that chocolate must be in unsealed tins. . The number of prisoners officially notified is now 6712 and there are four unofficial.
